Neon Indian - Polish Girl

In initially starting this site I sought to include all types of music and I feel that I have been straying from that somewhat and as such I will make an effort to include to diversify this week. Today, I decided to include Polish Girl by Neon Indian as the video was released just a week ago. Fittingly, this indie band is playing at One Eyed Jacks in two days in collaboration with WTUL, check out the information on the side...too bad I can't attend. For a more formal review, complements of Pitchfork media, "'Polish Girl', a single from Neon Indian's fresh-out sophomore effort Era Extraña, finds Alan Palomo reminiscing about a failed relationship of some sort, a sad, wistful tone hanging over the song. His exhausted sigh tumbles down a hill of synth lines, embracing a casual delivery that's reminiscent of Stars' "Reunion", a song about regaining youth and, by extension, youthful love. Palomo's in a similar mindset here, asking questions that may never be answered: "Do I still cross your mind?/ Your face still distorts the time". The video for "Polish Girl" is something of a cybernetic love story, with visuals and themes straight out of Weird Science-- in other words, synthetic and nostalgic. The true feel of the song, however, is all flesh and blood."
