Modestep is Everything I Wish I Was

As an electronic musician myself, I feel it is important to pay attention at all styles and evolutions of EDM and see what it is that makes certain genres appealing, or unappealing to different groups of people. Something that certainly seems to turn people off about the mega-genre of "electronic" in general is that producers are not "real musicians". Apparently there is a wide-spread belief that playing guitar or piano requires more dexterity and musical know-how than DJ-ing and producing.

To some extent, this makes sense. After all, a DJ just starting out relies entirely on a cheap controller comprised of two play buttons, effects, and a crossfader. Depending on the particular person's skill and creativity in mixing, it is pretty easy to see how they might not be considered a talented musician; particularly when the DJ in question does not produce any music of their own. However, on the other end of the spectrum are acts like deadmau5 and Bassnectar, both of whom claim to trigger nearly every loop and sample that occurs throughout their set using multitudes of controllers and even creating live tracks on the fly. However, even this is not impressive enough for many who believe that "they are not artists, because nobody can play the guitar."

Now, to shut everyone up, we have Modestep. Live instrumentation, excellent vocal talent, and copious amounts of bass make for a performance so impressive that I've entirely given up hope of achieving anything close to it. Oh by the way, they're performing a DUBSTEP cover of COLDPLAY.
