As seen in Tulane's Hullabaloo: "For those looking for a solid electronic show, look no further than BASSIK event Thursday at Republic, featuring Paper Diamond, RUN DMT, Spamm Kidd and Abboriginal. Paper Diamond’s (aka Alex Botwin) effortless combination of electronic and dubstep makes him a cult favorite in the scene. The producer’s ambient, synthetic sound is reminiscent of Pretty Lights, an increasingly prolific artist who shares his label. Next week’s BASSIK promises to wow as Paper Diamond’s use of melodic electronic beats, raw but distinct bass lines and captivating vocals tend to enthrall the crowd’s attention early. Before heading to the show, make sure to download and listen through Paper Diamond’s free EP, “Levitate.”
The pulsating sound of the Texas-bred duo Lemiwinks and Parson, known as RUN DMT, will act as the perfect foil to the Colorado producer. While Paper Diamond’s signature sound revolves around complex sonic buildups, RUN DMT focuses more on heavy bass drops and deafening beats, which it deftly melds together with pleasing melodies. Despite their musical differences, RUN DMT matches the energy of Paper Diamond to create a truly memorable onstage presence. Currently, RUN DMT is working on a full-length album and creating music for Shortee’s Heavy Artillery label. The duo’s other accomplishments include tracks on several labels including JFK’s Teenage Riot Records, Play Me Too, Evol Intent, Purple 5 and contributions to the soundtrack for the video game, “Mortal Kombat.” Additionally, Lemiwinks and Parson have collaborated with Bird Peterson, Flinch, Figure and the alternative metal band Asking Alexandria.
As always, BASSIK will be the party of the month. Leave it to a frenetic combination of talented producers, consciousness-altering lights and more bass than you know what to do with to keep your chest pounding until the early hours of the morning."
